Description: Deputy Sheriff Abernathy was shot as he attempted to handcuff a suspect. Deputy Abernathy and fellow deputies had conducted a raid of an illegal gambling den. One of the suspects drew a gun and fatally shot Deputy Abernathy. The suspect was convicted of murder.
