Description: Sheriff Alvarez was shot as he attempted to arrest a suspect wanted for the murder of Nassau County Deputy Joe Robinson two weeks prior. Sheriff Alvarez and a posse surrounded the house where the suspect was hiding and exchanged gunfire. Sheriff Alvarez was fatally shot in the head. The suspect fled the scene. The suspect was killed later that year on September 5th by a citizen he had abducted.
