Description: Officer Aurandt and Detective Ike Wilkinson stopped a vehicle that fit the description of a car used in several robberies. The occupants opened fire on the lawmen, striking Officer Aurandt in his liver and lung. Detective Wilkinson, who was wounded in both legs, returned fire. The desperadoes escaped but were later captured by a posse of law enforcement officers. Officer Aurandt died the following day. Detective Wilkinson survived but lost the use of both legs. Officer Aurandt is the father of popular radio host, Paul Harvey.
