Description: Detective Apanites and Officer John McNamara were working off-duty as security guards at Petries dress shop when they spotted a man and woman shoplift an item. The officers gave chase and scuffled with the suspect. Detective Apanites was shot twice in the chest and once in the back. Officer McNamara was also shot in the back but survived. The suspects were wounded but survived. The shooter was sentenced to death which was later commuted to life in prison.
