Description: Police Officer Abernethy was shot and killed during a foot pursuit of a suspect who fled during a traffic stop. Officer Abernethy followed the suspect into an apartment complex, but lost sight of him. The suspect hid behind a fence and shot at Officer Abernethy four times. Officer Abernethy was shot in the head and succumbed to his wounds a short time later. The suspect was arrested and charged with capital murder.
