Description: Deputy Marshal Ayers was shot and killed while serving a warrant on a man in Cherokeetown, Chickasaw Nation (present-day Oklahoma). Deputy Marshal Ayers allowed the suspect to get some clothes before taking him away, but the man picked up a gun and shot Marshal Ayers in the head, killing him instantly.
