Description: Sheriff Arthur went into the jail lockup to check out a commode that inmates had reported stopped up. Inmates Stalcup and Brown had received a pistol smuggled into the jail by inmate Browns' wife. Sheriff Arthur was shot in the neck as he passed the inmates cell. The inmates made their escape in Sheriff Arthur's car. They both were arrested several days later in Houston and Galveston.
