Description: Corrections Officer Bunker died after suffering respiratory distress following a 12-hour shift at the Otsego County Jail and two hours of mandatory firearms training. The firearm training consisted of several different courses of fire accompanied by different physical exercises in between firing stations. In between stations, Officer Bunker completed 30 push-ups, 30 jumping jacks, mild jogging, defensive tactic strikes (punches and kicks), punching bags and dragging a bag full of sand while engaging a target. Officer Bunker completed the training session and went home. He stated that he was not feeling well and being overheated. He fell asleep and woke up two hours later gasping for air. Although CPR was rendered, Officer Bunker died a short time later.
