Description: On May 1, 1919, Patrolman Butterman was shot in his right leg as he and fellow officers attempted to quell a major riot. Patrolman Butterman died of his injuries six weeks later on June 16, 1919. Captain Hugh Lee also suffered a fatal heart attack during the riot and died two days later (Panel 11-W: 28). Officer Arthur Shea was shot and Officer Samuel Hutchins was stabbed but both officers survived.
