Description: Marshal Belcher was shot by an intoxicated suspect who had been arrested previously for stabbing another man. The suspect was also resentful towards Marshal Belcher because he closed his saloon on Sundays. The suspect had engaged in an afternoon of drinking and was parading down the street, brandishing a revolver. As Marshal Belcher approached to place him under arrest, he fatally shot Marshal Belcher in the chest. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to 18 years in prison.
