Description: Chief Burt responded to a call of a man brandishing a gun at a storekeeper. When Chief Burt arrived at the scene he approached the suspect who was wielding a .45 rifle. The suspect shot Chief Burt at point-blank range in the chest. Chief Burt staggered into a store, where he collapsed and died. The suspect was disarmed and arrested. An angry mob took the suspect from law enforcement custody and lynched him.
