Description: Deputy Sheriff Balfour was shot as he attempted to serve a warrant on a suspect for stealing riding equipment. As Deputy Balfour read the warrant, the suspect shot him in the chest. Deputy Balfour was able to return fire but the suspect escaped. Deputy Balfour died at the scene.
