Description: Attempting other arrest (excludes burglary, robbery and drug-related arrests). Officers Benton and Rigdon were responding to a call at a local public house where a dance had become unruly. When the officers attempted to arrest the owner of the house, a struggle ensued. While attempting to take the owner of the house to jail, another guest at the party shot Officer Benton in the head. The suspect fled the scene and was recaptured the same day. Officer Rigdon was killed (11/06/1858) after testifying in the trial of suspect who killed Officer Benton.
