Description: On May 9, 1970, Police Officer Bennett was ambushed and shot by a sniper while seated in his cruiser during routine patrol. The sniper, perched on a rooftop, fired several shots from a high-powered rifle at the cruiser. Officer Bennet was struck in the head. The second officer was not shot. Officer Bennet was transported to the hospital where he underwent surgery. Officer Bennett did not regain consciousness and died four days later.
