Description: Correctional Officer Bettis succumbed to wounds he sustained when he was stabbed by an inmate at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama on September 1, 2016. Officer Bettis denied an inmate a second tray of food during the afternoon meal and the inmate retaliated by stabbing Officer Bettis with an improvised weapon. Officer Bettis was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on September 16, 2016. The inmate was charged with murder.
