Description: On October 16, 2016, Sergeant Brandt was shot as he pulled over to talk to a man walking along a street. The suspect shot Sergeant Brandt five times, stole his service weapon and then escaped in the police cruiser. Sergeant Brandt underwent eye surgery the next day to remove shrapnel lodged in his eye from the initial shooting. Sergeant Brandt succumbed to complications after surgery on October 28, 2016. The suspect was apprehended.
