Description: On August 13, 1941, Patrolman Birt was severely injured in an automobile crash when his patrol car collided with another patrol car operated by Patrolman S.C. McKenzie. Both officers were responding to a fire emergency. Patrolman McKenzie was pronounced dead. Patrolman Birt was paralyzed as a result of the accident and died three years later on July 29, 1944.
