Description: Deputy Blankenship, accompanied by a posse, set out to apprehend a gang of desperados. While placing the gang members under arrest, they realized that there were other gang members hiding in the dark forest. The lawmen demanded that they surrender but the request was met with gunfire. Deputy Blankenship was shot in the chest and died at the scene. The leader of the gang was caught on the run and was shot to death while attempting to escape.
