Description: On July 22, 1944, Officer Bean was violently kicked in the stomach and groin by an intoxicated suspect who was causing a public disturbance at a tavern. On April 11, 1945, while on patrol with his partner, Officer Bean took ill and was vomiting severely. He was admitted to the hospital where exploratory surgery was performed the next day which revealed extensive internal injuries due to the kicking incident. A second operation was performed on May 1, 1945 and Officer Bean died later that day.
