Description: Special Officer Burns and fellow officers were aboard the excursion vessel, Mackinac, as invited guests of the owner when the boiler exploded. According to eyewitnesses, Officer Burns went under the waves while attempting to save a drowning child. Officer Burns’ body was located two weeks later on August 31, 1925.
