Description: Sheriff-Elect Brown was shot several times as he returned home from a party celebrating his graduation from the Sheriff's Training Academy. He was to have been sworn into office three days later as Sheriff of DeKalb County. Sheriff-elect Brown, a former DeKalb County police captain, had promised to clean up corruption that had recently been discovered in the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department. On November 30, 2001, three suspects were arrested and charged with the murder of Sheriff-elect Brown, including the former sheriff and sheriff's deputy. The former sheriff received a term of life imprisonment.
