Description: Sheriff Barber and Chief Deputy Robert Smith were shot as they attempted to stop a fight at a hardware store. Sheriff Barber was shot in the chest and died at the scene. Chief Deputy Smith was shot three times and died of his injuries two days later. Their assailant was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
