Description: Deputy Brugh and Sheriff George Wharton were shot and killed by a suspect they had arrested for writing bad checks. The lawmen escorted the suspect to the jail and as they attempted to conduct a search, the suspect pulled a gun and shot both lawmen. Before he succumbed to his wounds, Sheriff Wharton was able to return fire, killing the suspect.
