Description: Deputy Butcher was shot and killed by an inmate who was attempting to escape from the Trenton State Prison. As Deputy Butcher and other officers approached the suspect, shots were exchanged and Deputy Butcher was killed. The suspect, who was serving a life sentence for the 1918 murder of Patrolman Bernard Murray, fled into a cell, where he was killed in exchange of gunfire with other officers.
