Description: Officer Buttermore was killed instantly in a single-vehicle accident when the motorcycle and side car that he and Officer Schley were in struck a curbstone. Officer Schley, the driver, swerved to avoid hitting a truck. Officer Buttermore was thrown from the sidecar, his head hitting the pavement. Officer Schley was seriously injured but survived.
