Description: Customs Agent Bacon tripped and fell 20 feet into the interior dock-well of the USS Shadwell, a Navy LSD (landing ship, dock) anchored in Hampton Roads, Virginia. The ship had just returned from the Caribbean and had requested a usual customs clearance upon arrival at anchorage. Agent Bacon was conducting a routine inspection of the ship when the accident occurred.
