Description: Lieutenant Brooks died from injuries sustained eight years earlier when he was struck by an impaired driver. On September 27, 1997, Lieutenant Brooks was assisting at the scene of an automobile crash when an impaired driver traveling at approximately 50 mph struck Lieutenant Brooks. Lieutenant Brooks was thrown into the path of another vehicle and sustained massive injuries. Lieutenant Brooks remained in a coma for eight years and succumbed to his injuries on February 17, 2006.
