Description: Police Officer Benner died of injuries sustained three months earlier during a gambling raid. On November 6, 1937, Officer Benner and fellow officers raided an illegal gambling den in the city. During the raid, Officer Benner stood on a table, which gave way. One of his legs went through the table and he fell to the floor. The injury was not thought to be serious, and Officer Benner finished his shift. A few days later, he checked himself into the hospital, where doctors discovered he had ruptured a injured his spleen and kidney which caused blood poisoning. On February 14, 1938, Officer Benner died from complications of blood poisoning.
