Description: Deputy Bourland, of Caddo County, Oklahoma, was informed that Fred Hudson was drunk and hunting for trouble. Deputy Bourland had arrested Hudson several years prior for his involvement in the murder of fellow Deputy Marshal Lute Houston. Hudson met Deputy Bourland at the saloon door and gunfire was exchanged. Deputy Bourland shot Hudson through the right leg. Hudson, who was once a US Deputy Marshal, did not survive. Deputy Bourland was shot through the abdomen. Surgeons removed about thirty inches of the intestines. Despite the best medical care, Deputy Bourland died the next day.
