Description: On April 9, 1917, Deputy Sheriff Browning was attacked and shot with his own gun by an inmate who was attempting to escape from the county jail. The inmate gained control of Deputy Browning's service weapon, shot him twice and then escaped. Deputy Browning was transported to the hospital where he remained until his death six days later.
