Description: Deputy Constable Bratton and Constable H.L. Smith were shot by the brother of a murder suspect in their custody. The lawmen placed a suspect under arrest and allowed him to stop at his home before going to jail. Once inside the home, the suspect tried to get a gun and was shot by Constable Smith. The suspect's brother engaged in a gun battle with the lawmen and killed both Constable Smith and Deputy Bratton. The suspects were arrested and indicted on two counts of first-degree murder.
