Description: Deputy Sheriff Bowers was shot in the abdomen as he and Deputy Lawrence Edwards attempted to arrest an intoxicated and disorderly man at a saw mill. Deputy Bowers died of his injuries three days later. Deputy Edwards was also shot by the suspect in the arm and hip with a .32 revolver but survived. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
