Description: Deputy Sheriff Binion was ambushed at his residence and shot three times in the chest. Deputy Binion was scheduled to go to the federal courthouse later that day to obtain a warrant for several moonshine suspects. Deputy Binion had been working with federal agents to catch moonshiners in the county. Thirty-six moonshine stills had been destroyed by law enforcement officers in Elliott County that month. His assailant was never identified.
