Description: Sheriff Burnett and Deputy John Dail were shot after boarding a train to search for a gang of desperados. Sheriff Burnett opened a locked door and found the leader of the gang hiding inside. A gunfight ensued and Sheriff Burnett was fatally shot in the head. Deputy Dail was thrown from the train but survived his injuries. The gang leader was imprisoned but was forcibly removed from his cell by an angry mob and lynched.
