Description: Deputy Sheriff Bowers was shot as he and a posse attempted to arrest a suspect who had shot and wounded the coroner. The suspect barricaded himself inside his residence and shot at the officers when they arrived. Deputy Bowers was shot in the chest and died at the scene. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
