Description: Officer Benerlein was responding to a riot call when his motorcycle crashed into an oncoming car as he sped to the scene. The impact of the crash broke Officer Benerlein's leg and he suffered a fractured skull from being thrown twenty feet onto the roadway. Officer Benerlein died in the hospital four days later. The men involved in the riot were charged with creating the disturbance that lead to Officer Benerlein's death.
