Description: City Marshal Beathard was fatally injured when his patrol car collided with a train at a railroad crossing. Marshal Beathard had arrested three men for public intoxication and was transporting them to jail when the accident occurred. Witnesses said it appeared as though the prisoners in the car had distracted the officer. Marshal Beathard and two of the prisoners were thrown from the car. Marshal Beathard was transported to a hospital where he died eight days later.
