Description: Sergeant Bensyl was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a corrections officer for conspiracy to commit murder. In order to catch the suspect corrections officer, the warden, in conjunction with other agents, staged a motorist assist along a road the suspect regularly took to work. Sergeant Bensyl walked up to the suspect's vehicle and identified himself as state police. The suspect drew a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and fired two to three times at Sergeant Bensyl. One shot hit Sergeant Bensyl in the chest and killed him instantly.
