Description: Officer Bridges was on patrol with his partner when they came upon an intoxicated man. As the officers attempted to place the man under arrest, the man pulled a gun from his coat and fired one shot, striking Officer Bridges. Officer W. Mathis returned fire and fatally shot the suspect. Officer Bridges died at the hospital. Eight years prior, Officer Bridges had shot and killed a suspect who had fatally shot Officer P.T. Fleet.
