Description: Investigator Cowart was assisting West Point police officers during a civil rights march at Mississippi State University. While searching a suspect at the Clay County Jail, the suspect assaulted Investigator Cowart, pushed him to the ground, and kicked him in his back. Inspector Cowart was not breathing when fellow officers discovered him on the ground. Inspector Cowart was transported to a local hospital where he suffered a heart attack and died.
