Description: Chief Carpenter was killed in an automobile accident while in pursuit of a traffic violator. Chief Carpenter was attempting to catch a motorist who was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his department vehicle while attempting to negotiate a curve. Chief Carpenter's vehicle hit the guardrail and then struck a tree head-on. Chief Carpenter suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
