Description: Keeper Calvert was stabbed by a 16 year old juvenile as he was securing the inmates in the housing area at the House of Refuge on Randall Island. The inmate refused to enter his cell, drew a concealed knife and stabbed Keeper Calvert in the knee which severed his femoral artery. Keeper Calvert died at the scene. The inmate was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to a year of hard labor in the state prison.
