Description: Undersheriff Cavanagh responded to a disturbance call where a suspect was flashing a gun in a local grocery store. As he attempted to arrest the suspect Undersheriff Cavanagh was shot. Undaunted, Undersheriff Cavanagh returned fire, killing the suspect. Undersheriff Cavanagh died later the same day. The suspect, Herbert Youngblood, had escaped from a prison in Indiana with John Dillinger 13 days earlier.
