Description: Deputy Cooley was checking the locks on the doors in the jail, when he was struck from behind. A prisoner had pried open his cell with a crow bar and attacked Deputy Cooley with an iron pipe. Deputy Cooley lay unconscious on the jail floor, until his wife came to have dinner with him. Mrs. Cooley was also assaulted by the three escaping prisoners.
