Description: City Marshal Cook was shot and killed by a former co-worker, who was enraged that Marshal Cook had freed a prisoner. Marshal Elmer Donnelly had arrested and jailed a suspect. The next day he learned that Marshal Cook had freed the prisoner on an order from the mayor. Marshal Donnelly threatened Marshal Cook and resigned. A few days later, an intoxicated Marshal Donnelly approached Marshal Cook with threats and insults, then drew his weapon and shot Marshal Cook. Marshal Cook returned fire. Both men died at the scene.
