Description: Sergeant Cates went to arrest a man for shooting his wife. As Sergeant Cates approached the suspect, the man drew a pistol and shot Sergeant Cates at point-blank range. Deputy Sheriff Lonnie Morgan returned fire and shot the suspect five times, killing him. Sergeant Cates was transported to the hospital, but succumbed to his wounds.
