Description: Deputy Cole served a warrant and arrested a suspect who was a United States Army deserter from Camp Travis, Texas. The suspect initially appeared to cooperate with Deputy Cole. Suddenly the suspect grabbed a rifle form behind a tent flap and shot Deputy Cole in the stomach. The suspect escaped but was caught by lawmen the next day. The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
