Description: Deputy Collins and Police Chief Joey Blackburn of Clarkton, North Carolina, were involved in a high speed pursuit of a felony suspect. While in pursuit, both cars entered a 90 degree curve and slid off the roadway. The suspect's vehicle crashed, making contact with Chief Blackburn's patrol unit. The police cruiser struck a tree on the passenger side, fatally injuring Deputy Collins. Deputy Collins and Chief Blackburn were transported to a local hospital where Deputy Collins was pronounced dead. Chief Blackburn was treated for minor injuries.
