Description: Deputy Carlysle had received word that Billy the Kid was staying at a ranch and suspected him in a number of horse thefts that had recently taken place. Billy the Kid was also wanted for the murders of lawmen William Brady, George Hindman and Robert Beckwith. Deputy Carlysle formed a posse and surrounded the ranch. When Deputy Carlysle went inside to negotiate he was fatally shot. Billy the Kid was responsible for the deaths of Deputies James Bell and Robert Olinger before he was shot and killed on July 14, 1881.
