Description: On November 10, 1901, Officer Crane was shot by an intoxicated man who claimed that he had been robbed. As Officer Crane approached the man, the man fired a .35 caliber revolver, shooting Officer Crane above the knee. Officer Crane recovered slowly from his injury and was assigned to light duty when he returned to work. Officer Crane worked as a clerk at the department until his retirement in May 1907 when he was confined to his bed because of the wound. Officer Crane died of complications from the wound on September 12, 1907.
